Many residents of Ashland, Bayfield, Iron, Price, and Sawyer Counties experience problems associated with rural poverty, including substandard housing, lack of vocational skills, inadequate health care, poor physical and mental health, inadequate transportation, and lack of recreational opportunities. These northern Wisconsin counties also project deaths due to heart disease, stroke, and cancers to be higher than state rates.

Through the creation of Partner Up for Health Superior (PUSH), project partners aim to reduce the prevalence of obesity and overweight in the targeted counties, by 20%. they will do this by researching and establishing a menu of interventions that promote physical activity and proper nutrition for schools and parents of grade K-12 children.

Community partners: Bayfield County Health Department, Iron County Health Department, and Sawyer County Health and Human Health Service Department
