Award Date
September2024
Project Duration:5 months

Project Summary:

Medical students often focus heavily on clinical skills, while other important professional competencies may receive less attention. This development gap can impact their preparedness for the varying demands of modern medical practice. Building competency in areas like patient advocacy, career planning, leadership, and financial management is essential for long-term success in medicine.

With funding support from AHW, the Distinguish Yourself Medical Student Summit will provide Wisconsin-based medical students with essential professional development training beyond clinical expertise. Through sessions featuring experienced physicians and healthcare professionals, interactive workshops, and panel discussions, students will gain practical skills in areas such as effective communication, leadership development, ethical decision-making, and financial management.

Outcomes & Lessons Learned:

  • Engaged audience of medical students with keynote speakers addressing a very prevalent topic at this time
  • Received positive verbal feedback from audience members and will wait for final evaluation statistics to plan for continued events
