Project Duration:36 months

Project Description Narrative:

In Wisconsin and across the U.S., low health literally is tied to high healthcare costs, less engagement in preventative health measures, and higher rates of chronic disease. Reducing health disparities, and improving health literacy, calls for implementation strategies that are culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate, given the social and cultural variation across our communities.

In this project, partners will create and share health literacy fotonovelas (a popular and engaging style of novel popular among Latinos), and provide information about health resources in the community for the poor and uninsured. With interesting and suspenseful storylines, the fotonovelas will be the first used in Wisconsin as part of a community-based participatory research process within a Latin community.
