Quality Rounds Initiative

Promoting clinical teacher excellence and team leadership during inpatient rounds

Full Project Name:Quality Rounds InitiativePrincipal Investigator:Michael Weisgerber, MD, PediatricsAward Amount:$119,439
Award Date
January2008
Project Duration:36 months

Project Description Narrative:

To achieve excellence in education, research, community service, and patient care, MCW faculty must continuously expand their knowledge and skills in their roles as educators, clinicians, and researchers. For educators to provide high-quality, innovative educational programs, they must have dedicated time to acquire new knowledge and translate that understanding into effective teaching and evaluation.

The Quality Rounds Initiative will provide continuing education and prepare residents to be clinical teachers and role models as team leaders. This training will then filter to their learners, having a sustained and exponential effect.

The Quality Rounds Initiative is designed to identify concrete strategies for decision making and behaviors that can be used by faculty and senior residents during bedside rounds; provide workshops for faculty and senior residents to develop and practice clinical skills; and measure the impact of these workshops.
