Project Summary:


The Understanding Medical Professional Identity and Character Development (UMPICD) Symposium will gather educators, scholars, and practitioners to advance professional identity formation (PIF) in health professions.

Symposium attendees will explore the current state of PIF and character formation research, and craft a research agenda linking identity development with healthcare quality, safety, workforce resilience, and long-term access to healthcare in Wisconsin.

This year, the UMPICD Symposium will coincide with MCW’s Innovations in Healthcare Education Research Conference to leverage the benefits of both events for attendees.

Outcomes & Lessons Learned:


  • Conducted high level conference with specialized audience to advance the profession of medicine by outlining integrity, specialization, ethics, etc.
  • Engaged the audience with topics of how to choose a passion, what to do with burnout, and other very pertinent topics in today's medical profession
