Exploring a program to expand up-to-date concussion care through education for primary care and pediatric providers
Return to Listing
Concussions are one of the most prevalent injuries in youth. In Wisconsin, 6.8% of children have experienced a concussion in their lifetime. While the impact of concussions is serious, and there are state laws surrounding them in relation to sports participation, education about concussions is evolving and health care professionals not focused in this area can have outdated knowledge.
There is currently no structure for clinical support of primary care or pediatric physicians seeing youth with mild traumatic brain injury or concussion. This project will explore the feasibility of launching a Concussion Guidance and Education Program for primary care and pediatric providers across the state.
By demonstrating a need for improved support in concussion identification and treatment, this project will confirm the value of such a program.
