Project Description Narrative:

National and state calls have been issued for innovative approaches to addressing the nation's increasingly complex public health challenges, placing an emphasis on the need to both strengthen the governmental public health infrastructure and build broader partnerships among all sectors working to improve health. In 2005, following an assessment of public health education and training needs in Wisconsin, the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health created the Healthy Wisconsin Leadership Institute to contribute to the development of a sufficient and competent workforce, one of the priorities of the state health plan.

Since its implementation, the Healthy Wisconsin Leadership Insitute has become a model collaboration between the two medical schools, providing continuing public health education opportunities throughout Wisconsin to approximately 1,000 participants. It has been identified as one of 15 public health achievments of the past decade in Wisconsin's State Health Plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2020. To expand on this progress, this award will support efforts to build on existing programming through expanded offerings and reach across the state.

Outcomes & Lessons Learned:
