Project Summary:
This program is designed to address priorities identified in both the 2025 Wisconsin Health Care Workforce Report and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services 2025 State Health Assessment.
Key challenges include a growing aging population with increasing healthcare needs alongside a shrinking and strained workforce. At the same time, major health concerns across the state include mental health needs, limited access to care and affordability, and the ongoing burden of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. In response, primary care clinicians must balance personal well-being with the demands of staying current on evolving clinical guidelines and treatments. They are increasingly called upon to manage complex patient needs often compounded by socioeconomic barriers.
This CME activity addresses these challenges through evidence-based presentations, case-based learning, and interactive discussion. Expert faculty will provide practical, actionable guidance to support the integration of current research into everyday clinical practice. Participants will be equipped to:
- Recognize current, evidence based approaches to diagnosing and managing common and complex conditions frequently encountered in primary care practice.
- Identify recent updates in professional, ethical, and practice management issues relevant to contemporary primary care.
- Apply recent clinical research findings and guideline updates to improve patient care and clinical decision making.
- Evaluate new and emerging therapies and healthcare technologies that impact the management of chronic disease in primary care.
- Implement updated preventive care and population health strategies to support screening, risk assessment, and disease prevention in primary care populations.
By strengthening clinical knowledge and practical skills, this conference supports improved patient care and health outcomes. The primary audience for this conference consists of community-based primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, with approximately 90% of attendees coming from Wisconsin. The remaining 10% typically represent neighboring Midwestern states. The conference is designed to host at least 70 to up to 100 participants, fostering an engaging and collaborative learning environment. Topics are carefully curated to ensure relevance and value for the primary care community. Content selection is guided by feedback from past participants, who routinely identify priority areas for future sessions, as well as recommendations from faculty and external contributors. In addition, participant evaluations and survey insights play a key role in shaping not only the educational content but also the overall structure of the conference, including its format and location.
