Project Summary:
The goal of this year’s event is to strengthen Wisconsin’s public health system by investing in student engagement as a critical workforce pipeline, while fostering trust and meaningful civic and community-centered engagement. The impact is an enhanced ability among public health professionals and partners to build trust, authentically engage communities, and collaborate across sectors—ultimately leading to more equitable health outcomes, reduced disparities, and stronger, more resilient public health systems in Wisconsin. Statewide assessments have identified gaps in staffing, workforce diversity, foundational skills, and access to consistent professional development.
Health departments report ongoing challenges with recruitment and retention, limited training resources, and a need to strengthen competencies in areas such as community engagement and data-informed decision-making. The event will feature a diverse mix of speakers, including Tribal leaders, students, and national public health experts, offering a broad range of perspectives and proven approaches. A keynote on Tuesday afternoon will set the tone and build momentum across the full three days of the conference. Interactive workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities will support skill-building, peer learning, and real-world application. The event will also include opportunities for student participation, fostering future workforce development. Content will be practical and actionable, equipping participants with tools and strategies to strengthen civic engagement, collaboration, and community-centered public health practice.
The primary audience for this learning event includes public health professionals, community leaders, policymakers, and cross-sector partners dedicated to advancing health equity and innovation.
