Project Summary:

The ability of Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) organizations to deliver the highest-quality care, spur discoveries, innovate, and train the next generation hinges on their ability to leverage recent transformative technologies in data science and artificial intelligence (AI). This ability, in turn, requires modern, state-of-the-art infrastructure and an environment for data, computing, and storage. The four MRMC organizations—Children’s Wisconsin, Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Medical College of Wisconsin, and Versiti Blood Research Institute—envision a coordinated approach to this environment that generates synergies and efficiencies not possible operating independently.

The envisioned environment is a prerequisite for MRMC organizations to address Wisconsin health needs and priorities across the board. In particular, as all four organizations advance the boundaries of precision medicine across cancer, cardiovascular disease, neuroscience, blood disorders, and pediatric health, it is critical to have an environment that can manage the vast volumes of current and forthcoming data and apply modern AI approaches to them. Therefore, we propose creating and launching a coordinated, comprehensive plan for next-generation infrastructure that benefits the MRMC as a whole.

The process will be conducted by a steering committee comprising senior leaders of the four organizations and key stakeholder representatives. We will engage the services of a consulting firm experienced in helping its academic health center clients establish modern technology environments. The steering committee will take a multi-pronged approach, balancing immediate needs with long-range planning, making early investments in pilot projects to identify promising approaches. Successful pilots will guide recommendations for future investments. The steering committee will also develop governance and sustainability components of the plan.
