Project Summary:
Wisconsin's pharmacy profession faces significant workforce challenges, including declining pharmacy school enrollment, rising vacancy rates for pharmacists and technicians, and increasing healthcare demands driven by an aging population, mental health concerns, and public health crises. These challenges require coordinated action across stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of pharmacy services throughout the state.
The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) will host a learning event that builds upon insights from their 2024 Pharmacy Workforce Summit, providing approximately 80 pharmacy professionals with actionable strategies to address workforce shortages. Participants from diverse practice settings—including ambulatory care, community pharmacy, long-term care, and health systems—will engage with summit subgroup facilitators to explore emerging priorities and ongoing initiatives designed to strengthen the pharmacy workforce pipeline.
Through collaborative discussions and access to data-driven recommendations, this event will equip pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, educators, and student pharmacists with practical tools to navigate workforce challenges in their respective settings. By fostering cross-sector collaboration and implementing both immediate interventions and long-term strategies, this initiative aims to create a sustainable future for pharmacy practice in Wisconsin, ultimately enhancing medication management and patient care across the state.
