Program Development in Computational Medicine

Supporting expertise in computational modeling and simulation to drive new drug discoveries

Full Project Name:Program Development in Computational MedicinePrincipal Investigator:Daniel Beard, PhD, PhysiologyAward Amount:$2,167,909
Award Date
July2012
Project Duration:15 months

Project Summary:

Current technology provides the means to assay the detailed genomic and biochemical footprints of individual patients. Widespread recognition that computational modeling and simulation is the key to optimally and rationally using this information in treatment and care and in the development of therapeutics has led to the establishment of the Center for Computational Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Because designing drug trials and analyzing and interpreting findings require expertise in pharmacokinetics that is greatly underrepresented on campus and regionally, it is certain that recruiting faculty and developing new research programs in this area will immediately benefit the drug discovery initiatives of the MCW Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Center, Drug Discover Center, and Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

The Center for Computational Medicine will, therefore, establish, nurture, and support expertise in computational modeling and simulation for applications in drug discovery and development, pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics, and personalized medicine.
