Full Project Name:The Wisconsin Center for Health Communication: Pathways to ImplementationPrimary Community Organization:Wisconsin Public Health AssociationPrimary Academic Partner:Seth Foldy, MD, MPH, Family MedicineAward Amount:$50,000
Award Date
July2006
Project Duration:12 months

Project Description Narrative:

In our state and in the U.S., health illiteracy, poor health communication, and inadequate health marketing are important root causes of health disparity, high health costs, medical errors, inadequate access to care, and lost prevention opportunities. Currently, media channels are not an integrated part of Wisconsin’s health information infrastructure or health plan. Our public health system does not substantially communicate or professionally market through traditional media channels, or new and emerging one.

To develop a plan to establish a Wisconsin Center for Health Communication, project partners will convene public health system and other stakeholders. The center will serve as a multimedia communications resource for public health communications and health marketing, and a three-year business plan will be created to ensure self-sustaining funding for the future, creating lasting change for individuals and the community.
