Improving health in the Agape community and empowering the community to address their own health needs
Return to Listing
In Milwaukee, the communities served by Agape Community Center are at risk of experiencing unequal opportunities to enjoy good health due to their racial and/or socioeconomic characteristics. The majority of residents are African American, 25% are below poverty, and more than 20% do not have a high school diploma.
This project will address those at risk for health disparities in the Agape community, due to limited educational opportunities and resources, and lower economic status. It will provide education about the risks of obesity, heart disease, and other serious health concerns through health and nutrition interventions, provide experiential learning for nursing and medical students, and create long-term plans for community health initiatives.
