Project Description Narrative:

In Milwaukee, some high school students have already faced the use of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines, in addition to alcohol and over the counter substances. Adolescent and young adult substance abuse is tied to three leading causes of death: motor vehicle accidents and unintentional injuries, homicide, and suicide.

Through this project, a substance abuse crisis hotline and program for adolescents and young adults who are involved in substance-related crises will be developed. Project partners will create a curriculum and screening tool to guide management of the hotline calls, recruit and train hotline call volunteers and ambassadors, and promote use of the hotline within the Milwaukee community.
