Project Description Narrative:

Women in the criminal justice system are an undeserved population, particularly in regard to their health. In Wisconsin, the state prison system has been observed to have deficient health care and inferior mental health treatment for women, when compared to men.

This project will improve the health of women offenders in Milwaukee through increased access to preventative screening, health information, and advocacy. Through a new health empowerment curriculum that will be developed, the women will learn to take charge of planning their health, focusing on nutrition and fitness as well as self-advocacy.
