Full Project Name:Milwaukee Food and Fitness InitiativePrimary Community Organization:Growing Power, Inc.Primary Academic Partner:John Meurer, MD, MBA, Institute for Health and EquityAward Amount:$50,000
Award Date
September2007
Project Duration:12 months

Project Description Narrative:

Nearly one-third of low-income children in our state are overweight or at risk of being overweight, and two-thirds are poor or near poor. While Milwaukee has many effective programs that address food access, nutrition, physical activity, and health for its residents, there is no single program that integrates all four of those areas.

This project will integrate the systems and services of the Milwaukee County Nutrition & Physical Activity Coalition and develop new programs to improve the nutrition and fitness of Milwaukee’s urban children and their families.
