Developing a culturally appropriate model for better self-care of diabetes in Hispanic families in Waukesha County
Return to Listing
Hispanics have a higher mortality rate from diabetes than the general population. Peer health promoter models have been found to be effective in reducing linguistic and cultural barriers that can limit Hispanics’ access to health services. Through this project, a strategy will be developed to implement a health promoter model in the education, prevention, and self-care of diabetes in Waukesha’s Hispanic families.
Project partners will conduct an assessment of existing health promoter models and the needs of Waukesha’s Hispanic families and design a continuing education curriculum and training program for Hispanic diabetes health promoters.
