Project Description Narrative:

Manitowoc County is a rural area where mental health is a significant contributor to death and disability, and its suicide rate is higher than the state average. Treating mental health issues in rural locations such as Manitowoc County has its challenges, with strong stigmas associated with mental health services, as well as a limited number of providers. Residents are forced to navigate a fragmented system, with scattered providers, two hospitals, six mental health group homes, and several clinics and job training sites.

Through this project, Lakeshore Lodge will address the community health improvement process by implementing health-related programs that have been developed by the Center for Healthy Communities at the Medical College of Wisconsin in a central location where mental health care can be provided and discussed without stigma. The initiative will focus on system capacity building through the strengthening of a communitywide mental health delivery system.
