Return to Listing
Mental illness ranks first in terms of causing disability in the United States when compared to all other diseases. In Wisconsin, 5.4% of adults have serious mental illness, and in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties, 40-60% of non-institutionalized individuals with mental illness have a co-occurring substance use disorder.
This project will expand the capacity of public and private behavioral health systems in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties, developing cost-effective ways to promote recovery and integrating peer support as a vital service component. Through the Peer Support Training program that will be developed, 20 individuals will be qualified to work as Peer Support specialists at two Milwaukee County crisis respite houses and on inpatient service, and in the Waukesha Day Treatment Program.
