Project Description Narrative:

Most adolescent girls referred to the Milwaukee County juvenile court experience familial, peer, community, individual, and school risk factors associated with engaging in risk behaviors. Intervening with their family provides opportunities to work with children and their families to create healthy patterns of family communication that support adolescents avoiding risk behavior and improving their mental health.

Through this project, a behavioral intervention targeting adolescent females referred to Milwaukee County juvenile court will be implemented and evaluated. There are currently very few systemic intervention services available for this target population, and this program is expected to not only provide valuable resources and support for the girls and their families, but to have a positive public health impact in Wisconsin.

Community partner: Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services/Court and Delinquency Services
