Project Description Narrative:

More than 16 per 1,000 people have conditions associated with developmental disabilities, which are among the costliest conditions affecting both children and adults. Many developmental challenges are associated with factors such as low birth weight, moderate prematurity, and lead poisoning, which are more common among lower socioeconomic groups.

In the City of Milwaukee, there is a high concentration of families with economic challenges and child health disparities. This project will address the critical information needs of the Birth to 3—early intervention special education program—community, through the introduction of an early childhood integrated database system. Through this work, delivery of early intervention services of young children with disabilities in Milwaukee County will be improved.

Community partners: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Department of Health and Family Services, Milwaukee Center for Independence, City of Milwaukee Health Department
