Improving STD and adolescent pregnancy prevention outcomes for minority, uninsured youth in Milwaukee
Return to Listing
Sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancies disproportionally impact African American youth in Milwaukee. Milwaukee County has the highest reported STD case rates in the state, and rates of STDs among African Americans are higher than those for whites.
This project will introduce new planning and community mobilization efforts to better coordinate existing and new resources for reducing STDs and unintended pregnancies. Using strategies and processes from Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership (MAPP), an established public health needs assessment and planning tool, project partners will improve understanding of morbidity and impact of STDs and unplanned pregnancies, raise community awareness regarding these pressing public health issues, identify opportunities for resource and service access and utilization, and mobilize leadership to implement proven interventions and services.
