Changing behavior through peer influence and social support by helping residents become health advocates for their housing sites

Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity are persistent public health issues for Wisconsin communities. To address these health concerns, Community Health Advocate (CHA) programs recruit and train community residents to advocate for community members about their health and other community issues.
In this project, community partners will develop, implement, and sustain a CHA program at five diverse public housing developments, aiming to improve health promotion and risk assessment and promote a healthy lifestyle among residents.
Community partners: Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee and S.E.T. Ministry, Inc.
