Project Description Narrative:

While health care spending has been rising at an unsustainable rate, the quality of health care in the U.S. remains suboptimal. The health care system in Wisconsin has been identified as one of the most expensive systems in the U.S.

Little is known about how best to integrate medical and nonmedical sectors to achieve improved population health and reduce disparities. Furthermore, existing approaches often do not consider the patient perspective in efforts to improve care delivery. Organized, systematic efforts are needed to inform the development and adoption of efficacious, affordable strategies to improve the quality, experience and value of care provided in Wisconsin.

This project aims to create a collaborative of multi-disciplinary experts dedicated to developing, testing and disseminating health care practice, organization and delivery strategies to improve the quality, experience and value of care in Wisconsin.

Project Updates:

Engaged in several clinical and healthcare delivery projects, including: evaluating the ambulatory diabetes outreach program, evaluating the effectiveness of F&MCW's Complexity Intervention Unit, virtual visit uptake, optimizing OR scheduling, disparities in myeloma outcomes in Wisconsin, addressing access barriers of optimizing delivery of care to women with urinary incontinence, implementing clinical pathways, and evaluating the effects of an embedded phlebotomy service on lead toxicity diagnosis and treatment. The CHDS projects have provided critical insights into strategies to optimize access, organization, and delivery of healthcare services within the health system that have contributed to improving the health and health outcomes of Wisconsin residents while reducing disparities. Successfully leveraged AHW funds to secure several large extramural grants. Disseminated project findings in over 25 publications and presentations.
