Implementing strategic emergency practices to prevent COVID-19 in Wisconsin's Native communities
Return to Listing
Novel viruses and diseases historically have devastated indigenous communities around the world, including here in North America and Wisconsin. Native Americans in Wisconsin continue to face health disparities compared to the general population, with a higher percentage of people in high-risk categories such as tribal elders and people with underlying health conditions. Preventing the spread of COVID-19 in tribal communities will require a coordinated effort between Wisconsin Tribes, government agencies, and other community organizations. Through this award, project partners will work collaboratively to focus on disease prevention efforts that will protect vulnerable populations and workers delivering essential community services.
