Addressing gaps that prevent Hmong farmers from participating in wholesale markets in northeast Wisconsin
Return to Listing
Developing systems connecting local food producers to local food needs is an emerging strategy for increasing healthy food access while supporting small, local farms. Wisconsin has led the way nationally with an ever-increasing number of state, federal, and privately funded programs that link Wisconsin farmers to food pantries, food banks, and community-supported agriculture-style produce programs.
This project aims to increase participation in wholesale markets in northeast Wisconsin by Hmong farmers by addressing gaps in training; knowledge of sustainable farming practices; technology and equipment use; and impediments caused by trust and language barriers. A secondary objective of this project is to pilot a mobile farmers market in the summer of 2023 that will focus on including Hmong producers.
