Improving Hmong community health with a support phone line providing healthcare assistance and resources
Return to Listing
Hmong are the largest Asian American ethnic group in Wisconsin, with more than 58,000 across the state. Hmong Americans are an underserved and under-researched immigrant group within the Asian American community, with a high prevalence of chronic health conditions. Hmong and other Southeast Asian residents of central Wisconsin can face challenges to learning and accessing health care and health resources, including language, literacy, cultural barriers, and intimidation by health and other institutions.
Through this project, researchers will establish a Txhawb (support) phone line to support Southeast Asian community members by helping them make and keep medical appointments, connecting them with community health workers and health navigators, and better documenting the range of healthcare access needs that these communities have.
