Project Description Narrative:
Pregnancy-associated deaths disproportionally affect Black, Hispanic, and Asian populations, and more than 90% of those deaths occur in Southeastern Wisconsin due to low birth weight, premature birth, SIDS and co-sleeping, and inadequate access to prenatal treatment. There are also disparities in childhood vaccinations by race, with Black and American Indian/Alaska Native children experiencing much lower rates of childhood vaccination.
With this event, the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality (WCHQ) will share lessons learned and important takeaways from two recent WCHQ projects addressing disparities in maternal health and adolescent and childhood immunizations. Guests will hear from speakers on social determinants of health, health literacy, innovative approaches to increasing vaccination rates, and upstream factors impacting maternal health.
All who are interested in decreasing health disparities in maternal health or childhood and adolescent immunizations are welcome to participate in person or virtually, including advocacy organizations, community organizations, clinics, and health systems.
