Project Description Narrative:

The Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) and Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB)’s 2023 Public Health Conference gathers professionals, practitioners, students, interns, and other public health partners for an opportunity to build their understanding and increase their involvement in the health of the public in Wisconsin.

With contributing support through AHW Learning Event Support funding, the conference will allow hundreds of in-person and virtual attendees to explore public health’s role and responsibility in our state and use evidence-based strategies to improve organizational plans and policies, considering health and racial equity. Attendees will engage in peer discussions and build cross-sectoral support for Wisconsin’s public health professionals and partnerships.

Outcomes & Lessons Learned:

  • Engaged over 575 attendees with 50% of attendees being representatives from local governmental public health departments and 42% being first-time attendees to the WPHA annual conference
  • Supported six sessions of six concurrent breakouts and four keynote speakers bringing a broad perspective of knowledge, insight, and networks to attendees to learn and apply to their work
  • Attendee evaluations show strong agreement that learnings will impact attendees' practice, there were valuable opportunities to network with other attendees, and over 90% of attendees would attend a future event
