Full Project Name:The Nutritional Disorders Tele-Health NetworkPrincipal Investigator:Alan H Silverman, PhD, PediatricsCo-Investigator:Rachel Greenley, PhD, PediatricsAward Amount:$120,000
Award Date
October2009
Project Duration:36 months

Project Description Narrative:

Feeding problems affect up to 45% of typically developing children and up to 80% of developmentally disabled children. Obesity affects 17% of children and the rate of obesity is rising. Nutritional disorders disproportionately affect minority youth. Many families have limited access to adequate health services for diagnosis and treatment of nutritional disorders due to a lack of specialists in the community. The goal of this project is to increase local provider expertise, ultimately increasing access to care of nutritional disorders in underserved communities.

The aim of the Nutritional Disorders Telehealth Network is to build local health provider expertise in the assessment and treatment of nutritional disorders of childhood (e.g., failure to thrive, overweight/obesity). The project team aims to expand access to needed care in underserved communities that will prevent the onset of more severe and difficult to treat medical conditions.
