Project Description Narrative:

The development of a Pharmacogenomics Core Facility (PGNC) within MCW represents a key component of an eventual Center for Translational Research and creates a unique opportunity to translate the wealth of information becoming available from the Human Genome Project.

The PGNC offers a centralized, efficient, and sophisticated resource for clinical investigators interested in exploring the role of genetic variability on drug disposition and clinical outcome. Further, the core facility helps researchers better understand the mechanistic basis for adverse drug reaction risk. Translation of the knowledge gained to the clinical setting will result in substantial reductions in patient morbidity and mortality, as well as improvements in the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the healthcare system.
