Project Description Narrative:

The major goal of this project is to enhance and broaden applications of the Fourier transform mass spectrometer (FTMS) in the Medical College of Wisconsin Shared Mass Spectrometry Facility. The FTMS will provide state-of-the-art instrumentation for innovative research in drugs of abuse, cardiovascular disease and obesity, respiratory disease, digestive disease, infectious disease, cancer, and environmental toxicology. The FTMS may be used in environmental and occupational health and communicable diseases to identify chemical and biological toxins and mechanisms of toxicity and infection. It will also support research on obesity, mental health, substance abuse and tobacco use. This instrumentation will provide new insights into the mechanisms of these diseases, which ultimately lead to solutions for common health problems experienced by the people of Wisconsin.
