Researching novel genes and mechanisms in the pathogenesis of human breast cancer
Return to Listing
Breast cancer was identified as a priority health condition in Wisconsin due to its severity and magnitude (Healthiest Wisconsin 2010), and genetic predisposition and family history was identified as the most important risk factor for disease for people in the state (Healthiest Wisconsin 2010). Identified gene mutations only account for 5% of human breast cancers. Environmental interactions with genetic predisposition likely play a major role in human breast cancer development. This study will seek to identify multigenic determinants of susceptibility/resistance to carcinogen. Results may lead to strategies for the prevention of breast cancer.
