Establishing a Neuroscience Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin
Return to Listing
Many Wisconsin residents are affected directly and indirectly by neurological and psychiatric disorders that involve changes in the functioning of the brain or other nervous tissues. For instance, multiple sclerosis affects residents of the upper Midwest with greater frequency than other regions of the U.S. Other common diseases and disorders include: Parkinsons, Alzheimers, Huntingtons, ALS, seizures, strokes, migraines, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, and schizophrenia.
Through this grant, AHW aims to enhance Wisconsin's ability to prevent and treat these diseases through better understanding of basic synaptic function. Through this award, investigators will produce equipment and shared resources to enable new research into how these diseases develop and provide new insights for their prevention and treatment.
