Project Description Narrative:

LGBT populations are at risk for health disparities but are often “invisible” or hard to reach, and can face barriers when accessing traditional health care or health promotion services.

Through the LGBT Partnership Team previously established with AHW funding, it was determined that the health disparities experienced by LGBT populations are specifically health care insurance coverage, asthma, pap smear exams, mental health, personal safety, smoking, and alcohol use. It was also discovered that race and ethnicity, and its impact on health disparities in LGBT communities, requires further research.

In this project, additional research will be conducted to explore health disparities within the people of color LGBT population in Southeast Wisconsin, and an actionable implementation plan to address these disparities will be developed.
