Control of Vascular and Blood Development by GATA-4

Examining the role of GATA-4 in vascular and hematopoietic development

Full Project Name:Control of Vascular and Blood Development by GATA-4Principal Investigator:Stephen Duncan, PhD, Cell Biology, Neurobiology and AnatomyAward Amount:$150,000
Award Date
February2006
Project Duration:24 months

Project Description Narrative:

This study will provide insight into the fundamental mechanisms that control lymphatic vasculature formation and will advance the researchers’ understanding of the processes that go awry in cardiovascular anomalies. In addition, success in the researchers’ proposed aims will significantly advance their understanding of the fundamental processes that govern formation of hematopoietic progenitor cells and the contribution of the stromal environment to this process. Such an understanding could in turn contribute to the development of new procedures to control the rational differentiation and generation of hematopoietic stem cells in culture.
