Exploring the cause of diabetic vascular disease
Return to Listing
More than 380 million people worldwide have diabetes. In Wisconsin, more than 1,100 residents die from diabetes and many more suffer disabling complications caused by diabetes, including vascular disease related to blood vessel abnormalities. Currently, therapies to combat vascular disease are much less effective in patients with diabetes, and new therapies that specifically target diabetic vascular disease may help reduce the risk of illness and death in patients with diabetes.
Through this award, investigators will explore the root of diabetic vascular disease, endothelial function, to identify and validate a new class of pharmacological inhibitors that could be used therapeutically to reduce diabetic vascular morbidity.
