Funding summary

Funds Available: Each project can be awarded up to $250,000 for the award period. AHW anticipates making up to six meritorious awards.

Application Deadline: August 19, 2019 at 5:00 PM CST

Funding Timeline: Project funding will begin July 1, 2020. Projects should be conducted over a 24-month period. No-cost extensions are not allowed.

Funding Details: It is becoming widely accepted that collaboration in science is necessary to solve the complex health problems facing our society and to move important discoveries from the lab to the clinic and beyond. Recognizing that there are many paths to success, AHW seeks to support investigator collaborations to stimulate development of innovative research and discovery, strengthen academic capacity, and increase translation and dissemination of new knowledge.

AHW’s Call for Collaborative Research Projects for Improved Health aims to foster new or enhanced collaborations along the T0-T5 spectrum to support research aligned with AHW’s three focus areas of heart health, healthy minds, and/or cancer. This opportunity is open to full-time or full-professional effort MCW faculty within the MCW School of Medicine, and projects should be feasible to complete within a 24-month period, without the option for no-cost extensions.

Promising initiatives funded through this call will:

  • Strategically leverage new collaborative partnerships to bring together different skills, resources, and expertise, and align with one of the four collaboration categories identified in the RFA. Established partnerships will enhance their team dynamic by adding new expertise to take their work to the next level.
  • Provide a strong rationale for the proposed work as a new path of study, barrier that must be overcome, and/or importance to integrate new research perspectives.
  • Demonstrate the significance and immediate or eventual health impact of their work on Wisconsin communities.

Preference will be given to research in alignment with AHW’s focus areas of improving heart health, supporting healthy minds, and dismantling cancer. Approximately six meritorious awards will be granted through this funding cycle, with four awards reserved for projects aligning with AHW’s focus areas. Up to two awards will be granted for work outside of AHW’s focus areas in alignment with MCW School of Medicine research priorities.
